The book “The world food crisis: Impact on the Mexican countryside”, analyzes a very important problem, not only from the economic perspective but also from diverse angles that this represents for México, such as development of the countryside as a whole, poverty and marginalization, food security, and sustainable use of natural resources, among others. Likewise, this collective research not only means timely study of a phenomenon, but also sets the stage for understanding the various problems our country will face in coming years and, primarily, that part of the population that destines most of its income to the purchase of basic foods like rice, beans and maize. The book allows perceiving how the economic policy applied in our country, since decades before the onset of what is known as Neoliberalism, has derived into a situation of complete surrender of México’s food policy. Thus, it can be concluded from this read that in our country food dependency has increased, and that this has happened with full participation of the agricultural and livestock policy, which has not only dismantled the institutions that favored development in rural zones, but which has also contributed to beat down primarily small and medium producers, as well as indigenous farmers, Constitution in hand.
